“I’d much rather continue sharing notes with my ancestors, even if they still make me angry or disappointed from time to time, than write a different story that may look shinier on the surface, but lack the fluidity and realness of true connection.”
In this story, rowan ewanyshyn reads a timeline bending narration that blurs the lines of life and death to bring us closer to ancestors known and unknown. Painting vivid scenes of memories, visions, and dreams, we explore rowan’s own turbulent path towards healing ancestral pain woven with threads of softening masculinity, embracing grief, and ultimately finding belonging amidst the uncertain.

rowan ewanyshyn
rowan ewanyshyn is a sick & disabled genderqueer settler (they/them) of mixed european heritage currently residing as an uninvited guest on the unceded lands of the Lək̓ʷəŋən & W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples. rowan grew up on the Treaty 7 lands of the Stoney-Nakota & Bearspaw Nations of the Blackfoot Confederacy, & is eternally grateful for their time on these territories, & is always working to decolonize their relationship with the land & histories that dwell inside of their bones. rowan dwells in the nexus of communal resonances of grief, community resiliency in times of collapse, & expansive crip futurisms that leave no room for empire’s (settler) colonial visions of the future. rowan is a poet, writer, & lover of good food & community care-work.
