Grounded Futures Show

11. Doomer Joy - Nick Montgomery

“As radicals we need to be offering a different exit from middle class life.”

Season two begins with a joyful bang! Liam and carla talk with the wonderful Nick Montgomery about radical exit plans, the limits and problems of “rights”, generational myths, the importance of cultivating alternatives, finding joy and humour amid disasters, and more.

Black and white photo of Nick by a field, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, a plaid shirt, and glasses. There are trees in the background. There is a logo for Grounded Futures in the corner and text that says, "Nick Montgomery".

Bio

Nick Montgomery is an anarchist, theory nerd, and permaculturalist. He’s currently working with carla and Jamie-Leigh to launch Solidarity Housing: a project to transition privately-owned houses to permanently-affordable homes. He’s also starting a nut tree nursery with friends on Sla-dai-aich (Denman Island, K’omoks territory) where he lives. Sometimes he also teaches university courses on environmental politics and climate catastrophe. He loves good conversations, learning and sharing skills, and cooking giant meals. Nick is the co-author of Joyful Militancy.
